Privacy Policy for VideoDim
Last updated: 2026-08-08
Overview
VideoDim (“the Extension”) is a Chrome extension that dims non-video areas of a page while a video is playing. This policy describes what data is involved and how it is handled.
Information We Collect
VideoDim is designed to work locally in your browser:
-
Local preferences — settings such as enabled/disabled state, per-site
overrides, opacity, and animation preferences are stored with
chrome.storage.sync(managed by Chrome sync when enabled). - No accounts — the Extension does not create or require its own user account.
- No browsing history upload — the Extension does not send page URLs, video titles, cookies, or page content to a VideoDim server.
- No analytics / ads SDKs — the Extension does not include third-party analytics or advertising libraries.
The content script runs on pages you visit so it can detect HTML5
<video> playback and draw a local dim overlay. That processing happens in
the page; it is not transmitted to the developer.
How We Use Information
- To remember your preferences across sessions (via Chrome sync storage)
- To apply dimming on the current page while a video plays
We do not sell personal information.
Data Sharing
We do not operate a VideoDim backend that receives your data. We do not share extension
preference data with third parties. Chrome may sync
chrome.storage.sync data according to Google’s Chrome policies when sync is
enabled in the browser.
Data Storage & Retention
- Preferences remain until you change them, clear extension data, or uninstall the Extension
- Uninstalling removes the Extension’s local data from that browser profile
Children’s Privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under 13.
